Villains Land: These trees will set the dark mood at Magic Kingdom
When trees get creepy! At D23, Disney showed off two model trees that will help set the mood in the planned Villains Land at Magic Kingdom. Claw-like branches, a shadowy archway, and clear Maleficent influences – here are all the details!
Things had gone rather quiet around the planned Villains Land at Magic Kingdom – but D23 delivered a small yet telling glimpse. Disney put two tree maquettes on display: models of the trees that will help define the look of the new land.

The first model shows branches arching together to form a gateway – a classic, atmospheric entrance into the world of the villains. The second is considerably more unsettling, resembling a creature whose elongated branches read like outstretched fingers. Together, the pair offers a first sense of the visual language and mood Disney is developing for the space.
The concept art shown so far leans heavily on Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty," including her dragon form and her castle. Disney had previously confirmed that Yzma from "The Emperor's New Groove" is among the other villains inspiring the land.

Story-wise, a spell is said to have summoned the villains to this place. The plans call for two major attractions plus dining and shopping. Villains Land was first announced back at D23 in 2024, though Disney has kept concrete details notably scarce since then. The area remains in very early development, with earth currently being moved and graded. No opening date has been announced.
