"The Imagineering Story" is back: Season two coming to Disney+ in 2028
The cameras are rolling with the Imagineers again! At D23, Disney announced a second season of the acclaimed documentary series "The Imagineering Story." Director Leslie Iwerks will follow the most exciting building phase in years – arriving on Disney+ in 2028. Here's everything we know!
Anyone who devoured the first season has reason to celebrate: "The Imagineering Story" is getting a follow-up. The second season was announced on August 15, 2026, during the "Horizons: A Carousel of Progress" presentation at D23, with the first episodes set to debut on Disney+ in 2028.
Back in the director's chair is filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, who helmed the first season and more recently directed "Disneyland Handcrafted" and "Disney Worldbuilders." The new season follows the Imagineers through what Disney describes as one of the most ambitious periods in the history of Disney Experiences – that stretch where several new projects move from initial concept into actual construction.
Rather than profiling individual attractions or parks in isolation, the series puts the creative process itself front and center. "My goal is to make you all feel like you're right there with me on this journey," Iwerks said. Bruce Vaughn, President and Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, added that Iwerks has been granted unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to that process.
Disney has not yet revealed how many episodes the second season will run, or exactly when in 2028 it will arrive.
